Raw is the new Fried

Growing up in the South, I ate almost anything fried. The only raw food I loved was cold, uncooked hotdogs straight from the refrigerator! It's crazy to think about now; my husband still can't believe it.

Nowadays, all that has changed. My love affair with raw foods began in my mid 40's; now, in my mid 50's I am still finding vegetables I have never tried. My friends have been asking me to share some of my recipes; so stay tuned!

There are so many reasons to try more raw foods, here are just a few:

  • Raw means not eating as much of the other stuff!
  • Vitamins, minerals and photo-nutrients are more available in raw foods.

Get ready to:

  • Boost your energy and feel better!
  • Help with weight loss
  • Fall in love with new foods!
  • Help the environment
  • Stop cleaning all those pots and pans!
  • Best of all, the more you eat raw, the more you crave it

“I use to feel that every day I was growing older. Now I feel like everyday I’m getting younger!”

I love this quote from Matthew Kenney, a well-known raw food chef and raw food restaurant owner. Along with Sarma Melngailis, Kenney opened an award winning raw food restaurant in NYC, called Pure Food and Wine and author to one of my favorite Raw cookbooks, Raw Food Real World.

A Few Raw supplies…these are the basics you’ll need to get started:

vitimixer
  • A vitamixer or high quality blender (this is the nicest thing in my kitchen but can be the nosiest)
  • Food processer
  • Spiroli Slicer (for zucchini noodles)
  • Quality knives
  • Peeler
  • Nut bag (for making fresh almond milk)
  • Here are a few of some of my favorite raw cookbooks, Blender Girl by Tess Masters, Ani's Raw Food Essentials by Ani Phyo and Raw Food a Complete Guide for Every Meal by Erica Palmcrantz and Irmela Lilja
