Over 10 years ago, I took my first yoga class, thanks to my beautiful, blond friend Becca. The first class was: hard, awkward, uncomfortable -- downright strange. These days class feels anything but strange; in fact, I can’t imagine my life without yoga.
Since that first class with Becca, I've become yoga certified. Now I'm blessed with the gift of teaching and learning from amazing students that bravely show up for my class.
(btw, guess who's holding me up in this yoga pose from a recent class? Becca's husband!)
Practicing yoga is, for me at least, the most powerful system for overall health. It improves my body, and helps me understand my mind and free my spirit.
To practice yoga is to clear the mental clutter and cultivate the spiritual muscle that can lead to peace and happiness.
Yoga is not a religion nor a cult, but can bring you closer to your spirituality.
And if that’s not reason enough to try a class, think about these additional benefits of yoga:
- Reduces stress
- Increases flexibility
- Promotes strength
- Heightens cardio conditioning
- Lowers blood pressure
- Helps with weightloss
- Strengthens bones
- Prevents injuries
- Lifts your mood
- Improves immune system
- Increases oxygen supple to tissues
- Heightens sexual functioning
- Promotes spiritual well being
If someone invites you to class, go! You never know where the journey will take you.
